Torchbearer’s Programs

The Torchbearers Foundation has developed and executed several programs that support its mission. We pledge to  serve as change agents in the lives of youth residing in Chicagoland’s urban communities. Our programs have been executed independently and in conjunction with other organizations and include the following:

College Is Calling: A college preparatory program designed to introduce junior- high students to college admission requirements and what they must do while in junior high and high school to successfully gain admittance into top collegiate institutions. This session has been delivered to over 500 students over a three year span and twice in partnership with Citibank and Jones College Prep High School.

Risk and Responsibility – Are You Making Smart Choices?: An interactive program for junior-high and high-school students that focuses on the many choices young people can make and the life-lasting consequences those choices will have. Expert speakers address and bring awareness to health issues, sexual responsibility, diet and nutrition. Coaches and mentors work with the students in small-group settings to further explore what’s been learned and discuss in comfortable environments allowing for questions to be asked and opinions to be shared. This session has been piloted and delivered at Proviso East High School and will be delivered again in 2011.

Community Scholarships: TBF Community Scholarships allow junior-high and high-school students to take advantage of constructive after-school and recreational activities. The Torchbearers Foundation collaborates with organizations that have a proven agenda for young people and offer fun activities while learning new things individually and collectively, building confidence, and through positive social interaction.

Emerging Leaders of Tomorrow Program: The Torchbearers Foundation works to identify and support leadership development opportunities for urban youth. To date, seventeen young men have been sent to various leadership programs throughout the Chicagoland area including Alpha Phi Alpha’s Leadership Development Institute and Delta Sigma Theta’s E.M.B.O.D.I. Program.
